Cremation Pre-Planning in Pittsburgh September 16, 2019

We have been helping Pittsburgh families with cremation pre-planning for many years.  Find out why pre-planning a cremation is something that many people choose to do.

Protecting Your Loved Ones

There are many reasons for pre-planning a cremation.  One of the most important reasons is to spare your loved ones from having to make difficult decisions at an emotional time.

There are many decisions involved in making cremation arrangements.  Wondering what type of service that you would have wanted is an additional burden for family members, especially while dealing with grief after their loss.

Putting Your Wishes in Writing

By putting your wishes in writing, family members will know that you have chosen a cremation service.  There will be no doubt about whether you want a funeral followed by a burial or cremation.

Once you have decided to make cremation arrangements in advance, it’s important to notify your family members or the person who will be responsible for handling your arrangements so that when the time comes, they will know what you have decided.

It’s also very important to understand who can authorize cremation in Pennsylvania.  When someone desires cremation as a method of disposition in Pennsylvania, the legal immediate surviving representative(s) are required to authorize the cremation in writing at the time of need.

Understanding the Options

Before you make any decisions about the type of service that you desire, you need to understand all the options.

When you plan online, you can browse and choose the cremation package and merchandise that you prefer at your convenience and in the comfort of your own home.

A funeral professional at our funeral home can help you understand and compare the options available when pre-planning a cremation in the Pittsburgh area before you make your decision.

Pre-Planning a Cremation Can Save Money

Some people prefer to make cremation arrangements in advance, but not pay for them. Others prefer to make all their decisions and pre-pay for their arrangements in advance.

With pre-payment, the cost for the cremation services and merchandise can be guaranteed to keep up with inflation.

If you choose to pre-fund your plan, there are a variety of payment options available, besides paying in full up front, depending on the age of the person who will be covered by the plan.

Reviewing Your Cremation Arrangements

By pre-planning your cremation, you’re assured that your final wishes are known.  Your wishes will be on hand when needed.  This relieves your family of the burden of having to make difficult decisions under emotional duress.

Also, your arrangements are flexible and can be changed at any time.  It is recommended that you review, revise and update your decisions every few years.

If you make any changes or revisions to your plan, it is recommended that you inform your family members or the person who will be responsible for handling your arrangements so that when the time comes, they will know about the changes you have made.

One place where you should not specify your preferences regarding your final wishes is in a will. A will may not be found or read until after a person’s funeral and cremation.  Keeping a copy of your final instructions in your trust binder is fine if the person designated to handle your arrangements also has a copy that is accessible immediately.

If you plan online through our cremation center, all the biographical information that you provide along with the cremation package and merchandise selected will be sent to us immediately, so your wishes will be on hand at our funeral home when needed as well.
